Breastfeeding my son Lewis for the last fourteen months has been such an incredible experience. Some days I think we could continue on for much longer, other days it seems like we are both totally done with it. Either way, I’ve found myself comfortable in the feeling that any time I nurse Lew could be the last.
Our journey was a pretty smooth one, and I am so grateful for that. The first month or so was pretty rough, but one advantage of having a baby during covid was that we had nowhere to be. So we spent a lot of time nursing and getting into a routine and after that first month it was smooth sailing. At the moment, we only nurse in the morning when Lew wakes up, and with lots of summer travel coming up, both together and apart, I have a feeling it will be the end of the road.
I know I’ll miss these sweet moments with him, so for now I’m trying to be completely present and take in his cute feeding habits. His little hands clapping as he eats. How he stands up and sits down over and over again. How he pops up just to make three farting noises and then continue. His little personality shines no matter he’s up to, even if it’s just eating from his mama.
I just wanted to share some photos from the past year that I am so happy I have. To be able to look back on such a special time in my life is truly amazing – so big thanks to my husband and mother for taking most of these photos!!
