Congrats on your newest little family member, mama!! It is such an exciting and monumental time in your life, and it is so magical to be able to capture that belly and all of those feelings through photographs. If you have booked your maternity session and you are wondering how to prepare, I have you covered! Keep reading for three helpful tips on how to make the most out of your maternity session!
1. Choose an outfit (or multiple) that you feel confident in!
I know you’ve been looking on Pinterest and see so many glamour maternity sessions, and if that is what you want to do, go for it!! But I am also here to tell you that you don’t need to wear a dress and heels if you don’t feel comfortable! You want to feel confident in front of the camera and spend the time thinking about your connection with your little baby/partner/kids, and not that you don’t feel natural in your outfit! You can go as casual or as fancy as you would like – all depending on your personal vision for the photos. Check out my maternity gallery and also my maternity inspiration Pinterest board and you’ll see a wide variety of styling, each and every option beautifully capturing this chapter of motherhood!
2. Less is More
Though we can totally incorporate props into your session if that is what you have always envisioned, I tend to think that less is more when it comes to maternity! We want all of the focus to be on you and your precious babe, and balancing tiny bb shoes on your bump may take away from showcasing all of the emotions you are feeling.
3. Embrace It!
If you are able to, take the time the morning of your shoot to really slow down and focus on your body and how you are feeling. This session is all about YOU and your new baby and you don’t want to be rushing around beforehand and not thinking about how special of a time this is. If your life is crazy busy, no worries! Just take some deep breaths before the session and try to feel those sweet baby movements. You will be looking back on these photos forever, so you’ll want to be able to tap into those incredible emotions when you see yourself!
If you have any other questions about maternity sessions, let me know in the comments!
